Survival and preparedness

Survival and preparedness go hand in hand. Making sure that you are prepared is of the utmost importance to your own survival, as well as your family’s survival. However, it is an unfortunate fact that many people are severely unprepared for an emergency or disaster.
Becoming prepared to ensure survival is a fairly simple thing to do. First starting with a written plan, which includes all of the family members within your home;  making sure to practice your evacuation plan.
The next step is becoming prepared by having rations available. These stored items should include food for a minimum of one week to a year. Including dried foods such as MREs, canned goods, and other non-perishable foods; water is also another very important item to store in preparation of an emergency.
Some other items you should keep with your food and water storage are:

  • Survival kits in your home and vehicle
  • First aid supplies
  • Trauma kits
  • Swine flu kits or pandemic kits.
  • Alternative energy such as generators.
